Afolki is organising an event from 5 to 7 July in the Firmiano Castle dedicated to the art of Berber rugs with an exhibition of selected artisan items and Tuareg mats in an ideal meeting between the Atlas Mountains and the Alps.
The Castle is one of the six museum locations set up and curated by Reinhold Messner, and the choice of this location was appreciated by Afolki not only for its easy geographical location and consequent viability, but above all for the charm evoked by the numerous works of art exhibited that Messner gathered in his long and adventurous mountain trips.
Afolki will display an unreleased collection of Beni Ourain and Azilal carpets, result of the creative craftsmanship of the various Moroccan communities in the Middle and High Atlas regions, whose manufacture will be explored in all its materials and symbols, including the Berber tradition, during the conference held by three experts of the art and culture of these populations. The meeting is scheduled for Friday, 5 July.
Master craftsman Elio Armano, through his experiences with Morocco, will talk about his relationship with art, symbolism, manufacture, contamination with the culture and the contemporary art of historical trailblazers represented by Matisse, Paul Klee, Kandinsky and the Bauhaus movement.
Professor Alberto Boralevi, an expert in textile art as well as an academic with numerous educational, scientific and professional activities, will deliver a speech linking and comparing the characteristics of Berber carpets to other types of artefacts.
Architect and interior designer Sarah Gasparotto will take guests on a journey through contemporary homes, offering suggestions and solutions to furnish any room with taste, taking advantage of the characteristics of the Tuareg carpets and rugs that have incomparable charm in their geometry and design.
